God Isn’t Fair

People make this comment most often when they feel like God is picking on them. They feel like things just aren’t going their way. They’re right but not in the way they think.

You see, I deserve death and eternal separation from God. That’s what I deserve. That’s what we all deserve. We all sin. Sin separates us from God, and the appropriate punishment for sin is death. That’s what’s fair. But, like I said, God’s not fair. Instead of giving us what we deserve, Christ took our punishment for us. How fair is that? Someone who is completely innocent took my punishment.

When I’m tempted to whine that something isn’t fair, I stop and remember to be grateful. God is just. God is loving. But, He’s not fair. Instead, He’s forgiving.
