In the 1600s celebrating Christmas became illegal for a time in England. This is the story of Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans and how they tried to eliminate the celebration of what they deemed a pagan holiday.
This is book two in The Christmas Chronicles by Jeff Guinn. It begins with Layla’s story, but quickly moves to how Christmas became endangered. As in The Autobiography of Santa Claus, the author provides a good list of reference materials at the end of the book in case you want to learn more.
What I like about this book is that it focuses on allowing others to choose how they would worship and honor God. It also has quite a bit of action and intrigue and a recipe for Candy Cane Pie.
