It’s Thanksgiving weekend, and the Luther and Nora Krank have just put their only daughter on a flight to a year-long Peace Corp assignment. Christmas won’t be the same. So, after figuring out how much they spent last year on Christmas, Luther convinces Nora to skip the whole thing this year and go on a cruise. Turns out that’s not quite as easy as they think it will be.
This book by John Grisham is amusing and thought-provoking. If you’re familiar with the movie, the book isn’t quite as slapstick and delves a bit more into the internal struggles of giving up the trappings, chaos and frenzy of Christmas. I relish the reading of this book each year. John Grisham is a first-rate writer.
